just swapped a 4- speed into my 78 f150. i replaced the bushings in the E-bar, and ordered a heim jointed clutch rod from the pedal assembly to the E-bar from JB fabrication.
the only part left that is really worn is the part that attaches the clutch adjusting rod to the E-bar. the hole is ovaled out and it looks like its going to fall out. is there a fix for it, possibly some aftermarket part that will hold up better, or just buy a whole new e- bar? also looking for ideas if anyone has done a custom fix.
Do a weld build-up to add metal to the hole to round it out. File as needed. Alternatively you can buy all of the linkage parts from parts suppliers. They will wear from use but will last years.
If you are referring to the clutch adjustment rod that has the fine threaded where two nuts go to adjust the clutch, the hole on the other end is intentionally large and ovaled.
I went through this on my 76 Bronco and even ordered new parts with the same sized and shaped hole. After that I compared it to a bracket I took off a 78-79 F250 and it was the same with the hole. After talking to some vendors, it is not worn out. It is a hardened rod with the large ovaled hole. I have no idea what the engineers intent was behind this.
