In need of one with ladder racks for my '95 F150 XLT 4x4. Something inexpensive for now, off of Craigs. Does anyone know what one like pictured would weigh? I normally carry about 400 lbs of tools and materials - though sometimes more, plus the ladders may be another 150 lbs. Could I maybe get away with something this stout if I spring the truck up some, or add airbags or something? Or, are my options really just a light one, aluminum or something?
I've got one just like that. I want to say it is around 800 lbs. I went to the Reading website and found the weight there, just can't remember what it was. I don't have the ladder rack but I can carry some serious weight up there, it's pretty strong.
Those things are all aluminum aren't they? If so I'd be surprised if it's more than 300-400lbs. In any event I put a set of Helwig overload springs on my truck and they did a great job of helping it deal with the extra weight of a cap and tools.
Thanks for the replies, guys. I'm sure it's steel, and pretty heavy, just wasn't sure on if it's too heavy.
I emailed about the one pictured, and he just said it was heavy. Seeing that he had pics of it both on the truck, and laying in his yard, I asked if he had any way of getting it up onto my truck. He did not bother to reply to that. Oh, well.
Ended up with an aluminum one off of Craigs for $250. Going to go down South for a heavier truck in the spring, so may still grab that first cap I posted.
