I just received my 1000 lbs Tongue weight scale and wanted to see if I could make it available to folks in SoCal or maybe wherever depending on location..... I wouldn't charge anything other than shipping(it's a bit heavy but I could find a rate) and a small tip if you must. It's available locally for a cup of coffee or a beer. If this doesn't work, I'll just resell in about 6 months or so.
I have never played with one of those but was always curious how much difference in TW there is at differing tongue heights. Maybe you could play around with it and get the indicated weights with the trailer perfectly level, 3" nose down and then 3" nose up. I for one would be very interested to see if the indicated weight changes much or at all in the various positions. I have an idea in my head what will happen but have never had the chance to test the theory myself.
Thanks for the offer, but I think my TW might break that 1k scale.
If it works out ok, I could get a 2000 lbs gauge for it for ~$32. Not that I would ever need it. They also have a 5000 lbs gauge that also comes with the 5th wheel scale.
Same base, 3 different gauges. PSI and kg.
And yeah, part of it is just to see for myself what's going on with tongue weight. I always prefer the empirical data when available! These are the guys with the sway video on their page.
I had the experience of witnessing an out of control trailer sway event that lead to both the tow vehicle and camper getting totaled right in front of me a few ago. It was a scene that I will never forget, the sway event happened very quickly and was extremely violent. Just as the video shows, it was caused by poor weight distribution inside the trailer. It was a Ford Taurus wagon pulling a very big tandem axle Pop-up camper, and it was the last trip for both of them.
Does "them" = the Ford Taurus and the pop up camper, or does "them" = the passenger and driver of the Taurus?

Just the vehicles, driver only onboard and he walked away, very shaken up but walking. I stayed on scene with him until Police and EMS got there, he had no idea what happened.
lending, maybe watching, helping, whatever. My TT is in storage( and no easy in/out), so it would be cool to try it out on something. I only mentioned money if someone wanted to borrow it and have it shipped. It is gonna just be sitting til I get the trailer out at the end of Jan so let's have a go and see if what they say is true...
