Hey guys, Im having some issues with my wipers not working. Sometimes they work fine and sometimes not at all. And it does seem to be moisture related. I've ruled out the motor and switch because when it works, it works fine. But it has gotten progressively worse. It has been a while since they worked.
Anyways I took it to a friend that works at a gmc dealership and his mechanic says it's a bad fuse box. Another friend of mine thinks it is a bad gem module.
Are there any symptoms that might lead you towards one of these possibilities or the other? Their bothe
Kinda pricy so I didn't want to buy both if I didn't need to.
Thanks a bunch guys. I've been without wipers well over a year now. I need to get this resolved.
Don't know what year truck you have but....my research into why my wipers have intermittent problems has led me to believe that while the motor works consistently, the integral relay that controls the motor is failing. The relay on the wiper supposedly controls the timing and the "park" feature of the motor. You may have a problem there. Another option that I have read up on is the fact that the multi function switch module is in the steering column and the hazard button on top of the column allows dirt, dust and in my case biscuit crumbs to foul up the contacts in there. I have read a few happy owners that successful in cleaning out the switch with contact cleaner. Good luck. Hope you figure it out.
Thanks. I originally thought it may be a relay issue. One day I had forgotten to release my park break so while driving down the rd I released it and the "bump" it made caused my wipers to start moving. But that was a while ago. Mine is not really an intermittent problem though, when it stops, it always returns to the park position. I can't believe how many different problems can affect the wipers. This is frustrating. Like I said I was told it was my fuse box but they didn't really elaborate on how or why. Everything else seems to be working and I know how dealerships can be.
Do you have a good wire diagram? If not get one. Another common problem especially on the older vehicles is lack of good clean and tight grounds. Even try installing a dedicated ground wire from the motor to the firewall. Is the truck a rust belt bucket or Arizona dry? If its a ruster Ill bet the grounds bad.
I've had the truck 9 yrs. bought it off ebay. Pretty clean truck with few problems. It's an xlt with lariat int. plus a few more upgrades so possible water damage in past. After painting had leak dripping around fuse box, took it back, paint shop said roof marking light was leaking. Maybe I should pull that area and check for connections and corrosion?
I haven't got any wiring diagrams. I'm not sure how good I am at chasing these diagrams down anyways.
