Removing Cab from Local JY

I think this is the right place for this question...being that it's for an 87-91 and we're all experts here

I'm going to pick and pull this weekend to remove a cab and I'm wondering if anybody has any experience doing this? If so, what is the best method for this? They wont move the truck at all from where it is so that'll be tricky. Also, the only thing we'll have to use is their engine puller to be able to lift it...

Thanks for any advice

They don't have a loader with a set of forks, or a truck with a boom for doing such jobs? Most yards I have been to would make you unhook everything and then they do the lifting to CTA!

Oh you'd think so, but the people were less than helpful and they told us that was the method we had to go by because others have done it before. So I was just wondering if anybody had ever done it on here

I've done cabs on my old bumps(67-72). Can't be too much different. It will take 3-4 guys to move it far. Two will budge it, but they aren't light, especially if seat and stuff still in it. I engine craned one off/on, but worked on nice smooth driveway. Manhandled one with three people and it was a chore(still had doors on)

I'm thinking, depending on the engine crane, if it will get it high enough. What kinda of ground you working on? Dirt? gravel? that won't let it roll very well. Best bet is get 3-4 of your closest friends and armstrong it off. Remove the doors to make it lighter, seat too.

When I got my replacement cab for my 84 F250, I stripped the cab totaly to save $$$ and weight, called my friends who NEVER showed up to help lift it...

My Dad and I used the A frame engine puller and carefully pulled it off using some long ratchet straps through the roof. NOT the best way to lift but I did not have any other way and no damage was done fortunately!

4 guys will have no problems lifting a totaly stripped cab up and over a engine.....

By the way, that jerk now ex friend wanted/demanded me to help him fix his car next weekend......I did what he did to me.....stiffed him LOL!

Even with 4 guys a cab is heavy and very awkward to move. Lifting it off the frame over the engine in the junk yard would be terrible.

Raising it basically to head height to clear the engine will be impossible unless your friends are all built like Andre the giant.

Me and three others had no problems lifting several cabs off trucks over the engine and bed too. The cab MUST be totaly stripped to do that, no doors, seats, dash ect.... With just windshield and back window a regular cab is about ~400LBS, now a extended cab I don't know how heavy it is.

I eased it off on the passenger side. I have a blue harbor freight dolly that i put heavy duty harbor freight wheels on.
Put the dolly under the center of the back of the cab and lean it back. Roll it out the yard.

Buy the whole truck. Take it home and strip all useable parts and then scrap the rest for some of your money back.

Would a junk yard sell the whole truck? I think they make their money by selling the parts for more than the whole.

I don't think they do that on their junk vehicles, plus I don't need any other parts besides the cab to make it worth while.

Just a cab shell with NOTHING other than the windshield is STILL going to be heavy. At least 600lbs and even with 4 guys, lifting 600lbs that high is going to present a challenge.

Got lucky with the crew cab I pulled...it was on the aisle with an access gate right by the truck. The guys at the yard were so in awe as they never had seen someone pull a cab before. I asked if they could bring their loader over and let me back my trailer through the gate and just have them set on my trailer, which they did I think because of the rediculousness of how it looked... I took a couple of 2x4s and a variety of ratchet straps, etc...
