5.0 EFI Distributer Issue

I am installing the distributor and it goes in except for about 1/8 inch. I have tried up and down, grease to make sure oil shaft is going in, several gear positions, etc. Is there different length oil pump input shafts and I got the wrong one? Please say its not so? I did install a new oil pump and did not compare the shafts.

Some research and it looks like the only two sizes are for pre 63 or Y block. That's not it there is 2 inches different for those. Any ideas?

Broke out the depth mic and the clearance mics out to .275 so that's not it. Now I am stumped. Can the belvil washer on the shaft be set to high or would it be below the casting? Can I knock it down with out breaking it if it is to high?

That little bit left would be the hex shaft for the oil pump wouldn't it? I usually take a 1/4" drive socket and long extensions, tape them together so there is not possibility of them falling apart, and stick that down in the engine and just slightly turn the oil pump shaft.

I forget what size it is, but I know the 351w is larger than the 302. I want to say one is 1/4" and the other is 5/16 but I can't be sure.

Thanks for the reply, I did that as well as miked all of the depth inside the block and compared them to the distributor and it should go. I put grease on the distributor end to make sure it was mating with the oil drive shaft and it is. I am now going to snug it down and crank the engine and see what happens. Do you know what the correct initial timing is supposed to be? I read somewhere it is 13 degrees BTDC. Seams high.

It should say what it is on the radiator sticker. You have to take the spout connector loose before setting it. I want to say it's probably 10 degrees.
