So I have an 89 f350 with a 12 valve cummins swapped in, like that when I got it. Brakes are soft despite bleeding and new master, so my question is, if there's not a vacuum pump being driven off the belt, where/how am I getting vaccuum? Also are there any things I can do to get a stiffer pedal or am I on the right track? Thanks guys
Did you bleed the RABS valve? its on the frame under the front of the cab on the drivers side.
Also did you bench bleed the master first?
Try gravity bleeding all the sides in the right order, working from farthest away to closest to the master. Gravity bleeding meaning just open the bleeder and let the fluid flow out by itself. These trucks usually do pretty well that way.
Oh! are the rear drums adjusted correctly?
Follow the vacuum lines back from the booster and you'll eventually find a vac pump of some sort. It could be an electric one.
You guys rock, gonna try that, it's got the cummins setup so the ps pump and vacuum pump are stacked running off the same gear, gonna try the reseal kit from goulds if I can't get anything out of the stuff you guys recommended

What reseal kit are you talking about?? There is a better chance of there being an issue with your new master than a problem with the vac system.
Talked with vacuum pump guy he said to adjust drums and bleed abs valve before getting that kit, my question is can I just Gravity bleed it or do I need to have help? Was gonna try today but it's 40 and raining and I lack a garage so I'd like to knock this out tomorrow but wasn't sure about the abs valve
So some genius decided to bypass the abs valve, so I thought maybe I have no proportioning valve now? If the abs valve doesn't control that why does? I wasn't able to find anything for a proportioning valve anywhere so I could really use some help
the RABS has been bypassed on my 88 since the truck was 4 months old.
when it worked, it worked halfassed.. when it did not work(most of the time) hte truck had no brakes. bypassing the RABS on my 88-91 trucks was the best modification i ever did to them.
Thanks for the heads up on the abs, turns out there's a tsb for the booster, they're known to have a leak issue, got the updated part number, just gotta track one down and wait for pay day
