Looking for any recommendations on excellent quality seal kit for a 73 F250 Steering Box? Autozone lists one but not sure if that's the best quality kit out there. The number on the gear box C7AR-3A587A, also is this power assist or power steering, kind got lost in the threads. BTW, takes about two weeks but it drains the pump pretty well dry while parked.
Is the seal at the bottom of the box leaking? If yes, I think you need a new (or remaned by Readhead) gearbox as they don't have a bushing or bearing and the case wears causing too much slack for the seal to seal.
I really hate planned obsolescence, like all things you pay for what you get. Redhead is pricey compared to a reseal kit, I'll have to think on this one.
I put a seal kit in mine with the future plan of a redhead box. My suggestion is to remove and replace the input and output seals. The bottom one is not bad to replace on the truck, but, depending on orientation of gear, the input seal is not so much. Removing it gives you the ease to access both area's and clean it up better. you will need to bleed the system, but if you follow steps posted many times in the forums, it is not a bad process. Good lick.
I take that back, I just got under the truck and it looks like the output shaft is leaking as well. Truck is still new to me and working through all the kinks. I think I'll pull it and get it on the bench for inspection. I'll know more then.
