tachometer

Does anyone have some pictures and info on how they mounted an aftermarket tach? Also, what is a resonable price to pay for a factory cluster with tach from the junk yard? My truck is a 93 f150 with a 5.0 engine. Thanks.

Big old hose clamp around the steering column to hold the tach in place or zip ties. No pictures from me but its not hard to mount one up, what kind are you looking at? Big? Small? Ten grand with a shift light? or just some little 8 grand tach so you can have some rpm readings? If you aren't planning on doing allot of racing or hard driving it might be cheaper and easier for you to grab a cluster with a tach from a junkyard and swap it in, if I remember right its a plug in and go deal if you do it like that other than getting you mileage numbers back.

I'm not looking for anything too high teck. My racing days are long gone, but I do miss them. I just want to have an idea what rpm's I'm runing. I was thinking about something with about a 3-4" face, but I'm not sure if it would block my speedometer on the column. The factory cluster is what I would like if I could find one. I believe it needs to be from a 92 or 93 to plug in without switching some wires around. I think I read on here somewhere that I could use my speedometer to keep the mileage number.

I have a 92-93 and 94-95 cluster with tach. I know the 92-93 gauges and tach work because that cluster was in my truck until I realized it was wrong for my 95. When I went to the local u-pull-it to get the 94-95, I snagged another. So I have a 92-93 and 94-95 I am looking to sell if anyone's interested

I got my cluster with tach from the junkyard for $20.00. It was an easy swap because the harness is already wired for a full cluster. I ended up putting additional gauges after I rebuilt my engine so I had actual readings.

The A-pillar is a nice option for additional gauges. That is where I have the actual temperature read outs for the engine and tranny, as well as the actual oil pressure and voltage. I got the gauges and 4 cluster A-pillar mount from Glowshift.

I picked up the Sunpro Super Tach II at autozone. And I ordered the gauge pod from Amazon. Paid about $30 for each one.

Thanks everyone for all the good info and pics. I think I will try to find a gauge cluster at the junk yard first. If I don't find something that way I'll mount something on the wind shield post.
