Fuel Gauge Dancing

When i have my fuel selector on the rear tank and it's half empty. The fuel gauge daces from empty to full and back constantly. Anyone know what is causing this and how to fix it?

The resistor element is dirty in the fuel sender (has a film on it) in the tank.
Or the wiper is no making good contact as it moves along the resistor element.
