I put between 25,000 and 30,000 miles on my truck every year. I change oil by the idiot reminder - every 6,000 to 7,000 miles. I change my fuel filters every 2nd oil change. This works out to two or three times a year at most. $200 to $300 per year in filters is cheap maintenance. I would do it every oil change if there was a need, but I check my filters every time and they are still in good shape when I replace the on every second oil change. I know we have good fuel where I live but when I do 6,000 mile trips away each year with the RV, I'm still not having any issues but I do buy from high volume dealers and I have choice with my 50 gallon Titan tank.
I'm about the same mileage and do the same rv trip. How do you check the sealed filter? You cut it open?

If I can find aftermarket filter with the same micron rating cheaper then I fail to see a problem with that, no point spending $100 on something that costs $10 I figure. 180$ a year is lots more diesel I can run through it, haha!

It's not really about the money though, I'm driving an emissions deleted platinum. I just don't like dealers ripping me off and I like modding my vehicles, might have to check into some of these internet sources for cheaper if I'm unable to find a suitable aftermarket filter. I live in the middle of nowhere and wouldn't mind a filter I can find at any local cenex instead of through the mail or dealer only.

Its a 1R-0751 and I used them as a replacement filter on my Airdog for my 6.4. They were $14-16.
