[Leason Learned] Don't use International Fuel Filter kit #FS19797

I have a 2008 F250 6.4L Diesel and did a search on this forum regarding Fuel Filters (since mine needs changed out) but didn't find any info on the International Fuel Filter kit #FS19797. According to International the #FS19797 is the replacement Fuel Filter kit for FORD's Motorcraft FD4609 Fuel Filter Kit....but it's NOT!!! I learned the hard way. I bought the kit ~$45 + tax, went home pulled the top fuel filter and compared it to the new International fuel filter I just picked up and discovered that it's about 2" longer then the International one. I didn't even waste my time checking the lower frame-rail mounted fuel filter. So I returned it with no problems, took the money and placed an order online at www.dieselfiltersonline.com for a genuine Motorcraft FD4609 Fuel Filter Kit ~$47 + shipping.

Leason Learned - Don't use International Fuel Filter kit FS19797.

I don't know why my 7.3 was cheaper to maintain and this one can't be. 2 times as much for an oil filter. The 6.4 isn't twice as good.

The 7.3L engine is a bored out 6.9L engine. Development started in 1978 for the 6.9L and it made it into it's first Ford truck in 1983. It has been around for a LONG time.

The 6.4L engine is an entirely new design that's less than 5 years old. It also has an incredibly complicated piezoelectric high pressure injection system that is going to be more sensitive to junk in the fuel than the HEUI system of the older Powerstrokes.

thanks for the links. Good reading. I like what they said about the 6.4 possibly being the most durable powerstroke yet.

The 7.3/6.9 IDI from 83-94 and the PSD 7.3 from 94-03 share close to nothing. The whole block is different.
