So, I have a 1966 F100 4x4, aka the never-ending project, and it has developed a few electrical issues....
1st- No brake lights or turn signals. Brake lights stopped working, and blinkers were really slow. I replaced the switch for the brakes on the master cylinder, and now I have neither, but both running lights and emergency flashers work. Suggestions?
2nd- The wiper switch is out. I can go between high and low, but it won't turn off. Switch is currently unhooked. I was considering just getting a basic switch for the positive wire, and using it as an on off. Would this work? Or should I just get a replacement switch, and where would I find it?
Also, another issue is that the valve for the heater isn't working. Would it be seized cables behind the *****, or would it be the valve? How would I tell the difference?
Thanks for any answers or help,
Brennan Johnson
Bren, The brakes and turn signals use the same wires. It sounds like a bad ground to me. Trailer light connections are notorious for becoming dirty and stopping the power flow. That is a good place to start. If you have a circuit tester with probe, you can go to the back of the truck and look at the end of the drivers side frame rail there is a connection plug there. Turn the ign. switch to on and move the turn signal to one side or the other (doesn't matter which) go back to the connection and see if the power is pulsing on one of those wires. If yes the issue is at the back, if no it's at the cab. Find that out first.
The power goes to the wiper motor then to the switch so do not use a powered switch. You might have fuse panel issues as well since you have multiple problems.
If you are talking about a valve in the water line, it could be either. Can you disconnect it and spray lube the cable to see if it is the trouble? You can then move the water valve by hand. I installed a inline valve on my truck several years ago near the firewall. I raise the hood and move it when I need to use the defrost.
