finally getting started! looking to do a transmission swap

The truck is a 1965 F100 with the 240 I6 four on the floor. I would like to know if there's a transmission I can put in it that will give me some better cruising. Is there a 5 speed out there for this motor? Or even an overdrive? Am I out of my mind?

I'll probably be having a suggestion thread because you guys have helped me so much already, but now I can really sink some cash into the beast!

Whatever trans you swap in...the rear axle ratio will still be the same.

240/4 speed will have a ratio of at least 3.50-1, but it could also be 3.70-1; 3.89-1 or 4.11-1.

Swapping in a ratio of 3.00-1 or 3.25-1 will solve the problemo.

AXLE code stamped on the 2nd line...far right of the Warranty Plate, located on the left door face below the latch.

Post the AXLE code.
