no brake lights

after replacing the brakelight switch i no longer have brakelights. when the plunger on the old switch wasnt stuck, the brakelights did work but now nothing. the hazard flashers come on in the front only and all the signals work too. there is power going to the switch and the switch does work. any ideas? its a 72-f100 2wd

Unplug the wires from the switch and touch them together. The tail lamps should lite up then. If not you have a trouble shooting mission ahead of you.

BTW, Do the turn signals work? They use the same filiment as the brake light does.

yea i tried that, the problem isnt in the switch b/c i used a tester and i get power through the switch when i press it, the turn signals work so i know the bulbs are good. another thing is that when i press the brake pedal with the hazard flasher on, it stops flashing and just stays lit up but the rear still doesnt work, only the front flashes/lights up

I'd venture to say then that your problem is under the dash area. If the turn signals are light there is power going down the wire from the can to the rear.

I think the hazzards stop flashing when the brakes are applied. Without being there and tinkering with it, I don't know what to suggest next.

I do feel confident it is in the dash area.
