Auctions

So today i went to an auction of an estate of old car and truck parts. Mostly 47-48 ford cars parts but a few truck parts thrown in as well. There were a lot of people there but really only a handfull of people buying. Things went really cheap. NOS car fenders for under $100. There was one set of 48-50 front lower fenders in pretty good shape. They weren't perfect but they were way better than the ones i have and definitely above average for the area. Anybody wanna take a guess at what i paid for them? Ill let some people guess before i tell. There were also a few trucks that went stupid cheap. A 1996 bronco with 60,000 miles in perfect shape with 0 rust went for 4,700. A 1972 ranchero gt with 30,000 original miles and almost perfect body went for $5000. A 1979 f150 ranger in perfect shape with 58,000 iles on it stopped at $6000 and didn't sell. The reserve was $9,000. A 2001 f150 lightning with 60,000 miles in perfect shape went for $14,000. The the kicker was a 1955 f100. It was completly restored. Gorgeous metallic red paint, iaculate leather interior, 351 ford, perfect wood bed, not a scratch on it. Anyone wanna take a guess at what that went for? I also got some other stuff aswell. A set of decent doors for $30 a piece, a steel front fender that was patched for $130, a pair of heaters for $25, A set of horns for $5, a set of window regulators for $15 and a spotlight for $22. I think i did pretty well. I was just shocked at how cheap this stuff was going for.

You did good, wait until you see all the stuff you accumulate after 30 years of swap meets and auctions!
Looks like a nice truck, I assume someone died and the family just wanted it all gone, someday there will be an auction just like that at my place. If I am smart I will do the auction myself while I can still enjoy the cash!

Since stuff went cheap I will guess $10K on the truck and $40 for the fender extensions.

Auctions are strange animals, no rhyme or reason for the prices sometimes. I've seen circular saws with cut off cords sell for as much or more than new at one auction and then the next auction the auctioneer has trouble slightly used equipment for 1/4 the cost of new. The worst part about the auction I've attended where stuff was walking out the door for next for nothing is the one or two items I want I always have one, not two or three bidders against me, just the one and he always runs the bid up.

Sounds like it was great auction. I'll place my guess for the lower fenders at $25. If no one there was after them they probably went for next to nothing. I went to a big truck/farm auction and the one item I bought, I didn't need or really want it, was a radiator/grill shell/grill for a '35 Ford truck. No one bid on it so I got it for $25, came home, listed it on the Ford Barn board and sold it for $300.

Am I wrong in reading between lines that the red truck somehow followed you home?
Five dollars on the fenders. Eight thousand on the truck.

I forgot to place my guess for the '55 is going to be $14,100.

Do we get a prize if guess correctly without going over?

No the truck didn't follow me home. I wish it did though. It was really nice. You got the fenders right. $5 in the back of my truck. I was really surprised because there were at leas three other guys there buying truck parts, so i figured they would probably take me to my limit of what i wanted to pay. Bid started at $5 and i was the only one that put in a bid. I was shocked. I was ready to pay at least $200 if not more to get them.

Yeah i've already got a decent stash of extra parts just from this project so far. The owner of the garage died and the family was selling everything. Goo way to get quick cash but most of it went way under what it was worth. The only thing that went pretty high was a 47 ford convertible mechanism with all the windows and everything. That went for $2000.

In the picture i saw for the listing there were a bunch of truck fenders so i was gonna try and do like you did. Buy them cheap and try and resell what i don't need. Turned out all but the lower fenders and one upper fender i bought were fiberglass. There was disassembled bed for a late 50 to 52 f1 that only went for $200. It looked like a repro and was in perfect shape.

It didnt go quite as low as you guys are guessing. It sold for $19500. Still way low for what it's worth and what the guy probably has into it. I was expecting in the $30,000 range.
