I just bought a 2015 F350 diesel and would like to replace the 26 gallon fuel tank with a 50 gallon aftermarket tank. Does this affect the warranty? Also which brand would ya'll recommend as well as do you have to recalibrate the computer/electronics/gauges etc?
A replacement tank WILL NOT void your warranty. It is merely a vessel to hold the fuel. The fuel tank does not induce anything into the fuel that would contaminate the fuel system. When fueling would be the only time you might induce a foreign liquid or if someone sabotaged your fuel system. The material used by Titan is very similar if not the same material used by Ford's supplier and military vehicles. I talked with the Ford dealer about it when I took delivery of my 2015 F350. The Titan tank use the stock fuel pump. You remove it from your old tank and mount in new tank. The DTE (distance to empty) will need to be updated to reflect the larger tank size. Dealer should do it for free or minimal charge. Takes less than 5 minutes of actual labor.
I replaced the tank on my truck once the initial fuel fill up by dealer was gone. The Titan tank fits nicely and being able to be more selective on where to stop for fuel helps.
Food for thought
If a replacement tank would void the warranty, do you not think a transfer tank would be void warranty also? think about it.
