Hello everyone. I'm a newbee, and hopefully I'll soon be a Ford owner. I've found this forum to be a tremendous help in answering some things that I was wondering about. However, I'm hoping that someone can give me a little advice...
I'm considering getting a 2008 F-350 Lariat with a 6.4L diesel Powerstroke. It has around 171,000 miles on it, 6 inch pro comp lift kit, 37 inch tires with 20 inch wheels, and a dpf delete with mini maxx tuner. I've never had a diesel engine before (nor a Ford for that matter). I'm willing to take the vehicle to a Ford dealer for inspection, but I'd like your input as to what are some things that I should look out for, and/or what things might I be of concerned about?
Here's what I think.....Lift + Big tires + DPF Delete + Tuner = A truck that's probably had the snot beat out of it. I would run away from it as fast as I could.
Plus, I wouldn't even think about touching a newer diesel (of any brand) that's out of warranty.

+1 Too bad we don't have "post of the day". This one is good.
Find a stock one with under 100k on it. The "200,000 miles is only broken in" is B.S. I bet the whole front end is worn out (tie rods, links etc), then there's tranny wear, brakes, etc etc. And the motor has been abused so it won't last as long as a stock one.
Thanks for your input everyone, I've decided to turn it down. I'll keep looking . Maybe I'll think more about a gasoline engine as there seems to be fewer problems than with the diesels. Appreciate your replies, and thanks again!
Sounds like a wise choice Don... Just remember - Gas or Diesel, it really doesn't matter - when you buy a truck that's all jacked up and dressed like a 5 ton RAMBO, chances are that it has had the ever loving cr@p beaten out of it...
It's been my experience that the money you save up front in buying one all dicked up and dressed out will be spent several times over once you get down the road a little ways with it..
good choice on passing on that truck. Just run a search on you tube for "rollin coal" and that's probably the life that truck has seen. The only way I'd buy a truck set up like that is if I knew the previous owner.
unless you drive a ton of miles or do a lot of heavy towing I'd stick with a gasser, less things to go wrong when compared with the newer diesels.
