ECM Help

My code scanner tells me my ecm is having a failed memory issue. Its a f4tf-12a650-za which is a TAG0 ecm. Its 7.5l, e4od, and federal emissions (which is weird because its a CA truck).

I found an ecm that is f5tf-12a650-ala which is the same specs, 7.5, erod, federal.

Did ford make any mechanical changes on the 7.5l for 1995 over 1994? Both are federal computers for the same engine and transmission so I can't see an issue with compatibility.

What is the Code by number? 511 or 512

If it's 512 that can be caused by removing a battery cable to clear the codes. If it's 511, that is usually fatal.

It was a 512 Keep memory alive. I'll disconnect the battery and see what happens.

Cut from my Ford Service Manual:

Continuous Memory DTC 15/512 indicates the PCM has experienced a power interrupt in its Keep Alive Memory (KAM) circuit.

NOTE:
If KAPWR is interrupted to the PCM, for example when installing a breakout box, or when battery is disconnected, DTC 15/512 may be stored in Continuous Memory.

You need to clear the code and NOT disconnect the battery.
Disconnecting the battery will cause the 512 code.
Disconnecting the battery is NOT the way to clear the codes.
You only disconnect the battery to relearn the sensors IF you replace a sensor.
By the way an actuator is not a sensor and you do not have to relearn the computer for them.

You do not have to use a scanner to clear the codes.
Just ground the STI wire, turn on the key and when the MIL starts to flash remove the ground from the STI wire and the codes will be cleared.
Then turn off the key.

MIL: Malfunction Indicator Light or its control circuit. A light in the dash panel that indicates a malfunction in the EEC system. May read either "CHECK ENGINE" or "SERVICE ENGINE SOON".

STI: Self-Test Input circuit in the EEC systems used to initiate Self-Test.

Worked like a charm, thank you. but back to my original question at hand, if at any time I do need to replace the ECM, will the one I mentioned work? Like I said, even though my truck is California, it is listed under federal emissions.
