It really is about a 5min job. The hardest part is contorting your body into the drivers footwell to make then connection, then Trying to get back out of the foot well after the connection has been made. I really wish ford had given an extra few inches on all of those wire, sure would have made it easier!
Second, for a mere 2-3 hours labor, they'd install it.
I'm thinking my dealer isn't very knowledgeable.
I think you've drawn an accurate conclusion.
The Ford engineers incorporated SEIC into the PCM, and I put more confidence in them than a dealer who thinks they have to take 2-3 hours to connect one simple orange wire that the engineers placed under the dash and labeled for that very purpose.
I just finally got around to hooking mine up yesterday in 5 mins and it is nobody's business but my own why I wanted to.
lol, I mean it's not the business of the dealer or the NSA.
Besides my top-secret applications, I hooked up the SEIC:
1. because I can and I wanted to
2. for situations requiring higher than normal electrical draw at idle such as
- jump-starting
- idling with lights etc on at night time
Can I ask what you guys a using a high idle for? To run a pump for dump body or somthing?
I can't speak for Ford truck owners, but....
In the big rigs we idle up for a high current draw (as was stated here), build air pressure quicker, and especially in the winter to keep some heat built up in the system when parked or sleeping..
tree huggers don't like a diesel to idle either..
My buddy got called in on out in Kali a couple years ago by a tree hugger/do gooder because he was on high idle in a rest area with his Kenworth.
You didn't mention to prevent wet stacking. When my wife picks up the kids at school she idles for an extended period. I was concerned with wet stacking in that case.
Of course, being new to diesel, I didn't know it was a risk.
