Hey there for all of you who havent done this it takes literally 10 minuites. I was puttin it off putiin it off puttin it off...for 3 years now LOL. After getting my truck back from service and a reflash recently I noticed on colder days the idle only goes up 100-200 rpm, not like before.
So if you have been procrastinating...like me, get er done.
Happy Holidays to you and your family. I wasnt too worried about it until they reflashed it and it doenst idle up past 800 rpm anymore. Just make sure you use the charge protect wire.
What does the latest Flash do for me? As for the upfitter switch items...you can order all thru FordPartGuy.com...much cheaper than going to the dealer.
I prefer the PTO wire for my elevated idle. It's a gradual rise to the elevated 1200 rpm than the bat charge protect wire. Where it's instantly at 1200rpm.
which ever wire you use just hook it to full time power, no switch. then anytime you're in park with park brake on it will rev up. i can't think of anytime i would meet those criteria and not want it on high idle
The only problem with the PTO wire is if you are jumping somebody and your battery is weak then truck will not elevate any further to protect YOUR system. Yes its an instant jump...like 2-3 secs. after all criteria is met, but I usually have the A/C, heat, work lights running, or jumping someone...so the charge protect ckt. was a good choice for me.
I have it set up in my truck. I just leave the attached upfitter switch in the on position, and tap the e-brake whenever I want the hi-idle to kick in.

I also hooked mine up with the orange PTO wire but after reading this can anyone explain the advantage of using the charge protect circuit? Would you jump someone while using the high idle? I dont think I would think of doing that, just jump them while at a normal idle. Or maybe by using the charge protect circuit it activates it when you use it as high idle where as if you dont its not active at all? Any further explanation would be appreciated!
Sorry to inform you of this..................you're not done with the hi-idle mod yet! You will end up putting in the factory "gold package" (remote keyless entry/ security system) and wiring the hi-idle to the 2nd aux. output of the "gold package" so that you can remote start and remote hi-idle on those cold NY mornings!
When I jump start someone, wich I dont like to do, I always try to get someone to elevate the idle some. Now I dont have to. Also if for some reason there is too much draw , by using the charge protect circuit, it will vary the idle depending on the demand of the charging system. The PTO is a gradual rpm climb and will max at 1100, where as the CPC will start at 1100, and vary depending on charging system requirements up til 2200 or 2400 rpm max. The only down fall I can see is that the engine will run at 1100 rpm when cold...if someone could answer me is that hurting anything?
I always worry about installing the car starter on a diesel. How hard is it to install the Ford security/starter. Does it incorporate the existing key fob that comes with the security group, if forgot the option code and my buildsheet is at the shop.
It has a timer delay for the diesels, being a factory product it comes with 2 new key fobs. As far as installing it...I asked the dealer who does their installs and called them, for $120 they came to me and did the install which wasn't difficult at all but it could be an all day job if you have never done one before. Just be sure to get the programming instructions as they do not come with the kit, I think I have it on PDF if you go the distance. Also, had it for 2 years now and not 1 issue with it.
