I am in need of a harmonic balancer for a 64 262. I am restoring the truck to original condition. The balancer I have is original, but shot. Anyone know where to get one or have mine rebuilt?
You can get a rebuilt damper at "www.ford-y-block.com" I don't think that the 292 and 262 use the same damper. The 262 is a 6cyl. Now a 292 and 272 can use the same damper.
I found a guy who rebuilds ALL balancers. I'll let you all know how he does when I get mine back. He garantees them for life. Time will tell. I should get mine back in a week or so.
Berkad -- if you are using "damper doctor" then I think you have found the correct solution. He rebuilt one for me. Looks fine, works so far. I discussed the process with him in detail -- he uses some relatively high tech elastomers instead of the old vulcanized rubber. Should be better than the original, actually.
dale manufactoring charges $91.00 I think and I am waiting for a quote from damper doctor. You can do a search (yahoo, google) for "damper doctor" and search for "harmonic balancer + violins" to get to dale manufacturing. The guy custom builds violins also.
