No Cruise Control

BTW, it seems I am running two very similar posts (sorry mods).
I'm going to continue the conversation here
Steering stabilizer? - Page 2 - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums
This is what it looks like in there. I don't recall if there is a plug in the back of the switch for easy removal, but i do remember the switches just pop out.
Airbag is a non-event, and I was very nervous about it before tackling my steering wheel project. I felt silly when I learned how minor this was - it's a good thing I didn't wear my motorcycle helmet like I planned.
I sent the shop an email and mentioned that I will change the switch myself - 198 bucks saved! I really do think they are reputable and didn't add anything to the list I gave them. That said, 198 bucks for a switch seems a bit steep.
See, you guys have me hooked already. I promised the wife I wouldn't start wrenching on it
. I told her, no wrenches are involved, just a screwdriver. Before the buy I ran some checks on the truck and no accidents were reported, and the mileage checked out. It has had two previous owners.
It's definitely been in some fine desert dust though (every nook and cranny is coated with it) and there's no telling how it was treated. I new a guy who enjoyed pounding down six 16's and hitting the dirt - his truck really took a beating. I hope I can get this one back to reality.
Many thanks guys - very pleased to be a member here.

and if thats the case they will tell you how to fix it!Smokie
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
Truck is back home from the shop. The final price was 900 less than the original quote - nice.
They had already installed the new cruise switches (whole set) as they were already at it by the time I called. The cruise works fine now.
New steering box tie rod ends etc. Obviously the front end was aligned as well including new brake pads on all four. New o-rings on the power steering lines and the power steering system flushed out.
Front end feels much better now - almost too tight as it doesn't seem to want to return to center on it's own, especially when I'm not at freeway speeds. Made me wonder if they just tightened up the screw on the box but a quick check reveals all new stuff.
Maybe it will loosen up a bit? I should mention that the box is a reman. I'm tempted to back the screw off an eighth. The only other thing that bugs me is the steering wheel is slightly off center when I'm going straight. It was like that when I took it in and I didn't have it on the list. Still seems odd they didn't get this during the rebuild or the alignment.
They also informed me that the vacuum hose "kit" is not there so I can only go to 4 wheel manually. Also, there's one of the four bolts missing on the right front hub. They said it's a Ford only part and would have to get one from the dealer. The mechanic said "it's probably OK without it".
Just for the record, I don't typically have any one work on my vehicles. While I'm not whining too much, the above comments from the mechanic is one of the reasons why.
Hmmm.

Your steering wheel should have been straight!
If they did a alignment then they should have made sure the wheel was straight! Smokie
Other option is to pull your steering wheel and rotate it a notch or two, but that can be a PITA, especially if you don't get it right the first time.
I still had my tires at 70 psi on the way home (about 10 miles of freeway)
The worst part is the steering doesn't return to center without a bit of help.
Maybe if I run them back to 55 psi in the front it might help but I have my doubts.
They also said the transmission leak (I had it on my list) was not there "probably someone had just spilled some oil doing a service" they said.
Well, it still leaks and I guess they just didn't want to fix it. I'm done with shops and will just work on it myself from now on. Just need more time. . .
