On my 1996 Bronco I need to replace the cable from starter to battery. The one on the truck is splice to the cellinoide is this right or wrong. Auto parts store said 60 in. leed no splice. Help please. Thanks
Moved from the garage and workshop forum to the Bronco forum-
If there is a solenoid on the starter, then there will be an about 8gauge wire from the battery to the solenoid on the fender, and a slightly smaller one from there to the solenoid on the starter. The main positive lead from the battery goes down to the outer large terminal on the starter mounted solenoid. This version uses the fender mounted solenoid just as a relay to engage the main solenoid on the starter.
If there isn't a solenoid on the starter, then the main positive lead from the battery connects to the solenoid on the fender, with a similarly fat cable from there to the starter. This system uses just the fender mounted solenoid to switch power to the starter.
