New starter-won't start?

Just put a Summit protorque starter on my 79 F-150 460 auto. The new starter has an internal solenoid. It has a lug for the starter cable and a smaller lug that runs to the ignition. Do I hook that wire to the S or I cable that is on my solenoid on the fender, thanks.

I think you hook it to the "S" But I'm not sure Just try it on both and see what one works Good Luck!

My brain started working, and I figured out what was wrong. The starter cable and battery cable have to be on the same post, or just one cable from the battery to the starter. That will put the power to the internal solenoid on the starter. Thanks for the help ford boy.

You can still run the fender solenoid if you like. The smaller wire on the new starter that is supposed to run to the ignition, can be hooked directly to the large cable connection on the new starter. The large cable connection will run to the old Ford solenoid as original on the fender, and all the other wiring is as original. When the Ford solenoid is activated as it originally was, it will send power down the large cable, and when power gets to the starter, the power will also jump over the small wire to to the small terminal on the new starter, and kick the new solenoid in to make it work.
