when i engage the tranny from park to reverse there is a huge clunk it does not do it all the time just sometimes and when i move it from reverse to neutral to drive what could it be.
You aren't by any chance rolling down a hill with your foot off the brake are you? If not .... check your u joints. If you don't have your foot on the brake, then place foot over the pedal and push down firmly before you attempt to shift from reverse to drive. This will prevent the transmission from grenading under your truck!
When is the last time you changed your fluid and filter. Sounds like it's a valving problem. Are there any modifications to the tranny..... How many miles are on it?
Why are you here..... BRING IT BACK! Tell them to fix it and give you a loaner of equal value for you to drive until they fix it! Don't accept it until it's perfect and don't take the line.... IT's within normal specs! BULL%H&T! I have 165,000 on mine and it doesn't make a sound! It is not normal! Good luck and let me know how you make out!
I agree that they can make some funny noises also. This is a tranny that is sitting idle and being shifted from park to neutral or drive. It also only has 10,000 miles on it. If you go to the F-150 section there is an article about a dealer buy back on a new F-150.... Tranny failure, engine problems, vibration, differential, and so on and so forth. I think Ford has a big issue with these new models and drive lines. I love the look of the new ones, I don't like the price.... and I definately don't like the horror stories I have heard about these 35,000+ dollar rigs! I think I'll keep my 97 until the wheels fall off.... then I'll put it back together and drive it some more! Sounds like a serious problem that I would make Ford repair or replace! There is enough documentation in this site about vibration and tranny problems and differential problems to sue the hell out of Ford Motor Company! Just my .02! Good luck with your dealer.... If you can't get anywhere with them try another dealer!
