So I have acquired two trucks, both 2001, both f250, both crew cab shortbox, both lariat. One has the 7.3 and was rolled the other is 6.8 with a bad motor. I plan to use the cab from the 6.8 onto the frame of the 7.3, and then the best of the rest of the parts to make one truck.
Questions
Will I have to pull the cab wiring from the 7.3 truck to install in the 6.8 cab?
I assume use the gauge cluster from the 7.3 truck?
Anything people know about this swap I should look for or need a heads up on?
Seems like it should be a fairly simple ordeal, a little labor intensive but not to bad.
I would also check with your local authorities on what you need to do to title the vehicle. When you assemble a vehicle here you get a new title and vin number and it is titled as assembled in the year it was titled, like when building a kit car.

That could hurt a lot. the 7.3 won't pass the emissions as it stands.
No Kat,EGR or DPF.
I would make sure that you don;t have to live with that set of rules.
Hopefully you can call it a repair. But the VIN tag in the cab and door
will be an issue how ever you go.

I've never titled a truck after a cab swap, so I'm not sure if it works the same way with them, but I know kit cars are titled by the year they are assembled and are exempt from emissions requirements(no cats, mpg's, etc). There was a debate about swapping cabs the other day and how they were titled and there were quite a few different theories on it, so probably best to check with the state it will be titled in just to be safe.
I have done this with chebies before in a body shop I used to work in. I will use a vin off of one of the trucks, not sure which yet. It will still be a 2001 when I am done.
The wiring sounds like it is going to be a load of fun!
Couple of videos out driving it around the block a little. It made a weird almost pop yesterday when I was revving it a little in neutral and then sounded a little different and started the grey smoke thing.
I got the receipt from the guy and it has a reman ford complete engine in it.
