Driving is normal, up to about 50 MPH. Then I get a vibration, and a rumble that get's louder, and more pronounced, up til about 60 or so. Then it seems to lessen, and mostly go away as you go faster.
I thought it was the 7 YO tires, replaced them with brand new. It has new universal joints, driveshaft was phased correctly on re assembly. I seemed to notice it after the new joints were installed. Midship bearing feels good when you spin it by hand.
I did that this weekend, the front joint had a little bind in it. I was able to center it, so it has no bind.
Made a small difference, but still very noticeable.
When you say it was phased correctly, you mean the two halves were put together correctly - right? If so, then pull the shaft off one end and turn the tranny end 1/2 turn. I chased a vibe on one of my trucks and noticed a difference when I did that - but it wasn't a huge difference.
Next, or maybe first, verify you didn't do what I once did and get one or more needles in the end of the cap. That prevented the cap from going on the whole way and wouldn't let the joint truly seat in the yoke. That caused all sorts of vibes, none of which were good, good, good vibrations.
No, that would phase it incorrectly - assuming you have it phased right now. I'm just saying to disconnect it from either the tranny or rear axle and turn it half a turn and put it back. Easiest way is to put the tranny in neutral, with the wheels chocked, and turn the tranny 1/2 turn and put the shaft back.
