I have a vintage air set up in the highboy and just recently got it charged with r134 and it worked great the past 2 days. Today I was driving and its working really well and then I hear a squealing noise like a noisy belt. I turn the AC off and then it goes away. So I leave it off for awhile.... Then I turn it back on and all hell breaks loose. Never heard a squeal from a engine so loud! Idk why its squealing. It seems as if the clutch engages and keeps it turning. Any ideas? Its a sanden compressor from march performance that mounts to their serpentine kit.
It sounds like your compressor has gone bad, if that is the case and you have it replaced do yourself a favor and have the system completely gone through, any quick connect seals should be replaced and the orifice valve replaced as well
Don't let anyone at a shop tell you othewise, half stepping on this this will result in near future failure.
I did A/C work on Ford ambulances for ten years
Are you saying that the compressor still turns? If so, first check and make sure the belt is tight. Second, put a set of gauges on it and see what the pressures are. If the pressures are too high, either there's an obstruction/restriction somewhere in the system or it has been overcharged. It could also have had too much oil in it.
If the compressor isn't turning, then it's seized and needs to be replaced, there was oil in it, correct?
If you do replace the compressor, it's very important that you flush the entire system and replace the receiver/drier and the orifice tube, if it has one.
So it looks like the compressor failed and is frozen... We ahd the right amount of oil in it and everything hooked up to it is brand new never used. Its 3 days old -.- No excuse for this going bad. So I just ordered a replacement pump and Thursday will clear the system and then try again....
What kind of cooling fans or fan is on that truck, on a hot day the 134A highside can reach 400 psi and that is what sounds like is happening, do you have enough cooling capacity at the condensor?

It has a binary switch to shut the compressor off and it still didn't work at midnight last night when it was cold out. But yea I run dual electric fans. And they suck like a jet engine! So cooling isn't usually an issue. But I think its more of a faulty pump then anything.
