I have read many threads on this site of diy boost leak detectors but what I have not seen is the instructions as to how to make one. I suspect I probably have some leaks and was wanting to do a leak test and see how many there are I`m looking to improve my MPG. Any help is much appreceated.
I found several different caps at the home store taht looked close but want to say it was the thinwall 3" that ended up working. It's been a while since I made mine. Will check when I get home to confirm.
I just got home and checked mine. Its actually a standard 3" schedule 40 pvc cap. one of the rounded ones. I pulled a fitting/pressure regulator/gauge off an old paint spray gun and used it. works great. Tried to take pics to send but lousy cell signal and pics won't send from phone. you don't need them anyway. Trey's got you covered
Would I be wrong to try mabey 10psi first spray soapy water if no leaks found increase psi to 20 spray again and look, what is the average psi these engines produce wot mine is completely stock 288K original turbo and looks like the factory cac boots. Thanks in advance.
I have to try and make another one of these. I've made one before, but the pressure gauge never moves. The system has no leaks according to the soapy water, and the intake swells as the pressure mounts to 15PSI, however I see no movement on the pressure gauge.

I figure with my stock set up I'm never going over mid 20's with boost so if it leak checks good at 30 psi that should be plenty. I did find a couple of small leaks that couldn't be heard over shop noises with soapy water from a spray bottle.

Also, never stand in front of the boost leak detector....
Thanks A/OX4 I`ll be sure and be mindful of standing in front of leak detector, I guess to be sure I get the rite o.d. cap I can take the intake off and measure the i.d so I get the rite size Thanks again.

I tried man "sizes" but as long as its a 3" pipe cap it should work. Slide it into the intake and CLAMP IT DOWN.
I never had any problems regardless of manufacturer, as long as it was clamped.
