Buddy wanted me to replace his turbo orings over the weekend. I already had orings and donuts for my excursion and he said he would buy a bd wheel for me and one for his. I thought great, changed the orings lots of times at work. Up pipe donuts not so much. Soon as I took it apart I saw alinement problems in my future. Searched a bunch but all I have leared from that is to get the bellowed pipes which will arive for mine tomorrow. Buddy on the other hand says he doesent want to buy them so he has my other truck and his is tore apart in my driveway. Question is how to I get that collector to match up to the turbo! I managed to get the bolts loose at collectors but I've been fighting it for hours! If I pull turbo back off and clamp collector to it will it go back on the pipes while juggling and turbo attached to it? Thanks for any help!
I've heard of people loosening the ups to get the turbo on, but all my work has been with bellowed ups in place - so I have no direct experience with this.
I loosely connected the up pipes to the collector and propped them up on the manifolds. Installed turbo than from below tightened up the clamps. Was pretty tough.
From your post it is not clear if you loosened up the up pipes at the manifolds. That is the only way I could get my turbo lined up properly with the collector, both times!
I didn't read that well enough. No I didn't loosen them at the manifolds. I thought of it but changed my mind when I saw the bolts. However that looks like what I'm in for tomorrow night. Took tonight off after two nights in a row of zero progress.
Good news my bellowed pipes for my rig showed up! Imagine they will go smoother.
