Unhappy Having trouble putting Y-connector on turbo

I am frustated, I am trying to align the y-con and put the clamp on but just no room and it keeps falling back. I did put the up pipes in loosely to help hold y-con in place, but I can't line up the pin and put the clamp on. I have the down pipe off also.
Do you put the y-connector on the turbo, then the donuts and collars, then slide theup pipes into them . What is the correct procdure, I have been reading for days on here and I thought I had it all figured out. It won't get the better of me.
I will check back in an hour but out to the garage for now.
Thanks in advance Colin

Bolt the up pipes to the manifolds very loosely, then connect the collector the the up pipes, running the bolts almost all the way in but not quite. Set the turbo in the collector, there is a dowel to align it, and then using one hand to steady that connection, use the other hand to pull that down onto the pedestal flat. Now im not sure if youre using the bellowed pipes or just the regular donuts, but the donuts make it a pain, because you have to tighten them last to prevent leaks, but the turbo will already be in the way. Use very long extensions to get to them, or a wrench to tighten them back up. Or another way to do it, is to do the above, tighten the bolts at the manifold, and then remove the turbo again, and then tighten the collector bolts. But there is still a chance on it leaking, its a shotty design, and if you had the bellowed pipes, it would be so much easier.

I never did take off my turbo, can it be done with the turbo in place? It came off that way.

And yeah I only replaced the donuts with the thicker GM ones only as a temperary fix until I can get more money for the bellows.

It's a lot easier to put together with the turbo at least a little loose, the more you can loosen the bolts the easier it gets.

Thank you strokin_it7.3 and clux for the help. I did do it without pulling the turbo. It was a PITA but it warmed up to 40 in the garage and that helped with the feel of the parts. I did the ccv mod and put on a s/s magnaflow turboback system, now I am smiling, not a "permagrin" but close.

Thanks again for your help. Colin.
