Ok. Had a pretty major loss of power while on the highway. Stopped on the exit ramp and truck dead. Turns over, but oil pressure guage doesn't move.
I'm thinking LPOP versus HPOP.
OPINIONS???
You did pull the dipstick, right? If you have an Allen wrench or an adjustable wrench with you, pop the plug or oil pressure switch out of the HPO reservoir and see how low it is.
Well, I actually just went ahead and changed the LPOP as a starting point. It started up and had pressure. I revved it a couple of times to work out any air in the system then it died and wouldn't start again. I got out and heard oil running all over the place. Now there is a handful of parts that I pulled out of the valley. Looks like a small pump and a bunch of spring loaded valves. There is now a vacant hole under the fuel bowl about an inch and a half across. I'm guessing that these are HPOP parts
Well, being on a tight budget, I didn't go hog wild on the new pump. I'll have it Tuesday. My concern is, why did it not blow apart while I was driving at highway speeds? Why only after I put in a new LPOP. And rev it up? I did also order the new IPR to go with the new pump, but what would cause such a thing?
Maybe the air in the system caused a psi spike? No clue. The snapring on mine is leaking and I have been nervous about the same thing happening to me. Hoping it will make it till it cools off a little.
My question was is low on oil before you changed lpop?
Will they accept that as a core with some of the pieces missing?
Wasn't low on oil. But also have had a slow leak. Perhaps the snap ring was where I've been getting the leak. I hope they'll take the core. I have all of the parts, they just happen to be in a jar. Lol
Yep. Stock LPOP. Melling from AZ. Yeah the more I think about it, the more nervous I get about installing the new one. Just some catastrophic failure on the old one? I'd guess that one has been on for 200k. I'd hate to install a new one and have it explode.
