Anyone upgraded lighting?

I'm interested in increasing the headlight brightness from my 02 Escape. Not looking for the rice-boy look, just some brighter light projecting for a little more distance. It appears from looking about that the 9003 and H4 lights are interchangeable. It also appears that there are nearly an infinite number of Krypton/Xenon/HID/Plasma/... lights available. I'm looking for input from someone that has actually installed upgraded bulbs and can share some buy or don't buy recommendations.

Thanks in advance!

Pretty soon, the government is going to step in and turn off all these bright lights.... I would get me a pair of Hella or PIAA driving light sets and mount them to my bumper, as far apart as I could. Extra Distance, Extra Width, No Hassle from the cops, Priceless.... Good luck....

Anyone upgraded lighting?

I just purchased an '03 F-250 CC 4x4. I installed a set of PHILLIPS HIDS and made a night and day difference as far as lighting the road. I can see further and still not blind everyone. I no longer have the use of my high beams but the light that is emitted from the low beams are plenty.

If you do not want to spend the $$$ on a set of HIDS, I would recommend a set of Sylvania Silverstars which can be purchased from Wal-Mart for $37 a pair. They emit a pure white light and increase your vision at night!!

I bought the Sylvania lazer blue lights. Man are they sweet. They are actually a little dimmer than originals though. The color makes up for that. How many trucks on the freeway have blue beams? Just remember to keep the legal notice on the back of the package with you. Cops dont like these...

Sorry, I've been lurking, though. I ended up buying the Sylvania Silverstars. Very pleased. Thanks to all!

hired-gun.... what pillips kit did you use. I recently installed a OEM set of Phillips HID's from a 2003 Navigator on my 2002 F350 CC Dually. They are much brighter, but the focus doesn't seem to be what I expected. Just curious if maybe there a better set of bulbs that might fit better as I had to use an epoxy to adhere the Navigator bulbs to the lens housing. Let me know if you can. Also, if you have any part numbers or pics that would be great too.

That's one thing about HID's, they are bright, but since they are, their light dispersal is quite large. If they are true HID's, you'll have a transformer that must be installed with them and the whole set-up is around 5-6 hundred dollars. I'll stick with the halogens myself. I'm not sure why the manufactures did away with the fluted lens' on vehicles in the past few years. Horizontal fluted is for down and distance dispersal and verticle is for side to side dispersal. Now we have light going in every direction and we as owners don't seem to have any say, and then we're changing the bulbs anyways! Oh well.... I'll talk with you guys later...

I am running the Silverstars also. Liek them a lot. I have seen the true HID kits, just keep finding better things to throw $600 on. I am going to break down and buy a set one of these days...

I purchased a pair of the sylvania's as well. However, they were not as bright as standard halogens.
I bought a pair of blue ice lights for another vehicle from JC Whitney a little while back. They gave off an HID look, and were much brighter than the standard bulbs. Look into these if your upgrading.

Believe it or not I got a great deal from JC Whitney on my lights. I know JC is not the place you would normally go for quality stuff but hey!!! ( also got a killer set of over the leaf traction bars from them that I wouldn’t trade for anything, but that’s another post.)

Anyway Diamond White with 100W high and 80W Low 13.49 each. Probably illegal but who cares. I live in NW FL and the cop never say anything about vehicle equipment. Nice bright white light with almost 100% better visibility. They not look ricer blue either (that would be bad). Sometime people flash their light at me because they think I have my highs on, I flash the highs back that shuts them up or send them sailing off the road into a tree. Cars in front at stop light move the mirrors so it doesn’t shine in their eyes. But as long as I’m happy that’s all that really matters in the world. I should be KING!

Sorry got a little excited my wife gave me my medication and I’m better now……………I love my truck
