I'm looking to get some more power out of my '01 F250 with the 5.4L motor. It's primarily a work truck so I'm not looking to spend much money so the most economical upgrades are what I'm looking for.
From what I've read so far putting some exhaust, programming it, and a cold-air intake appears to be the best/cheapest way to get some more out of it. I'm primarily looking for more pulling power and better MPGs so any suggestions (besides upgrading to a V10 or diesel) would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
For fuel economy I think you're chasing the end of a rainbow and you're not going to get there....the truck is heavy and has the aerodynamics of a school bus so it's going to suck down the fuel. You can get more power, the 5 star tuner I put in my truck livened it right up....night and day difference. Granted mine is a 3V engine not a 2V but all the feedback I've heard for each has been positive. The 5 Star tuner has given me more bang for my buck than any other power upgrade I've done for a gasser.
i've done all three on my '99 and gains were minimal. granted i picked up a used box tune (superchips, which did help, nothing night and day tho). wanting a 5-star setup, but financially it's on my back burner unfortunately.
don't bother upgrading the factory 3" exhaust; maybe an aftermarket muffler and cat converter (that's what i did, both magnaflow units). i run the outlaw intake, and while its a nice product i can't say it made a huge difference.

Not really much you can do for this truck that meets your goals and on the cheap.
