I've searched and read all of the posts, I've replaced the clock spring in steering wheel, vss in rear dif, brake pressure switch on master cylinder, and brake switch under dash. Still cant get cruise to work. I've tried to do the self test by holding the off button and turning the ignition on, but I never get the first flash. I'm at a loss now. No idea what to try next.
Ok, so I'm an IDIOT!! I thought for some reason that the Cruise light on the dash comes on when you push just the on button on the steering wheel. I did have a bad clock spring that set off my srs light and had no horn, I changed that and it was working for a few months, then went out again. I changed the vss in the rear dif because I had an interment anti loc brake light come on. That fixed that. Then today I first changed the buttons on the steering wheel, couldn't get the light to come on. Then changed the pressure sensor on the master cylinder, that was leaking, still no light, last changed the brake switch on the petal. Still nothing. For some idiotic reason I didn't remember that the light won't come on until you are above 30 mph, hit on, and set.... I thought the light just came on when u pushed on. .. duhhhhh.... so... im not sure if it was the brake switch on the petal (that was also damp with brake fluid from the pressure switch leaking and fluid following the shaft down to the switch) or if it was the pressure switch on the master cylinder. But it works now. .. still does not explain the self test not working, must not apply to the SD Diesels.
Knowledge is attained by experiences like this. You now have new parts you won't have to be concerned with. And, no, the self test is a misnomer of sorts. Anything in the system malfunctioning and it will not work. Hmmm. And, it only works on PCM's with that strategy programmed..
