Another RV question

Sorry, the RV forums are not much help.
I got a great price on a 1990 class A 22' motorhome that supposedly is on an E-350 chassis. The VIN verifies that much. it was warmed up when i tried it out, and I drove it only in town so it only shifted as far as 3rd.
I was told it was a 460 and I assumed it was fuel injected, but now I'm not so sure, and can't easily get the doghouse off to find out. The reason I have doubts is because when I went to pick it up, I fired it up cold. It galloped a while as though it was carbed and seemed too rich during the short distance to get it home.
8th digit is G.
So, do I really have a 460, and if so, is it carbed? I thought all 460s were EFI by 1990.
BTW, I couned 17 bolts on the tranny pan after I got it home; so it's a C-6, I was hoping for an E4OD. Bummer, no OD and no lockup. So if it's carbed also, I gotta just take short trips to save on gas.
Thanks,
Ray Mac.

The autozone repair guides (I looked at an 89 e350, since most rvs are at least 1 my old) and it shows the 7.5 to be fuel injected. There is a possibility it is an older YM so you can join the autozone my zone and search for info on a couple of years. They will have a fuel system section. However they said no parts are available for the 89 engine FI system!

Thanks, Hank,
It turns out there was a removable cover on top of the doghouse so I was able to see that it's fuel injected.
I will have to do some major surgery to remove the rest of the doghouse. So far i've located the PS reservoir (nothing showing on the dipstick) but can't find a radiator cap or coolant return bottle and can't find a way to check the brake fluid.
PO kept the appearance great but neglected fluids and who knows what else.

Not a big deal to convert to E4OD. Change crossover pipe, shorten front drive shaft and a PCM are the three main ingredients. Your wiring harness should already have the E4OD wiring and plugs built in.

There is always the option of an auxiliary over drive for the c6 as well. It wont give you the lock up torque convert though. There are low stall towing torque converters that can help reduce slip as well.

If you do a E4OD swap, just make sure the trans has all the updated parts and install a really big cooler and trans temp gauge.

A trans temp gauge would be a good idea even if you keep the c6.

Thanks for the replies.
It sounds like converting to a E4OD would not be that difficult. However I'd first have to see what my rear end ratio is, it would need to be at least a 4.10. On one of the RV forums i was told that because of the wind resistance I might be able to stay in OD and lockup only in ideal conditions anyway.
In the meantime I need to focus on safety first, brakes need work and I'm tracking down a fluid leak too.
I once read that on Expeditions some shops raise the body off the frame to do major engine work. Maybe i just need to raise the body off this rig and put a whole new rolling chassis under it...

Ray...I just bought a '90 Glendale 28' class C this year, E350 chassis, and it is definitely fuel injected 460 ('88 was the first year for 460FI) and, look on the dash, just below the left side of the instrument cluster there should be a button on a small bezel labelled "OverDrive". That indicates you have the E4OD trans.

It's a C6.

Thanks, AerostarDad.
Looks like you got lucky and i didn't.
i counted 17 bolts on my tranny pan, which makes it a C6.
The E4OD has 20 pan bolts.
if I had one of my Aerostars back I'd have OD and lockup, but i gave them both to my sons. I shoulda turned one of them into an RV....
Thanks again,
Ray Mac
