Another RV question
I got a great price on a 1990 class A 22' motorhome that supposedly is on an E-350 chassis. The VIN verifies that much. it was warmed up when i tried it out, and I drove it only in town so it only shifted as far as 3rd.
I was told it was a 460 and I assumed it was fuel injected, but now I'm not so sure, and can't easily get the doghouse off to find out. The reason I have doubts is because when I went to pick it up, I fired it up cold. It galloped a while as though it was carbed and seemed too rich during the short distance to get it home.
8th digit is G.
So, do I really have a 460, and if so, is it carbed? I thought all 460s were EFI by 1990.
BTW, I couned 17 bolts on the tranny pan after I got it home; so it's a C-6, I was hoping for an E4OD. Bummer, no OD and no lockup. So if it's carbed also, I gotta just take short trips to save on gas.
Thanks,
Ray Mac.
It turns out there was a removable cover on top of the doghouse so I was able to see that it's fuel injected.
I will have to do some major surgery to remove the rest of the doghouse. So far i've located the PS reservoir (nothing showing on the dipstick) but can't find a radiator cap or coolant return bottle and can't find a way to check the brake fluid.
PO kept the appearance great but neglected fluids and who knows what else.

If you do a E4OD swap, just make sure the trans has all the updated parts and install a really big cooler and trans temp gauge.
A trans temp gauge would be a good idea even if you keep the c6.
It sounds like converting to a E4OD would not be that difficult. However I'd first have to see what my rear end ratio is, it would need to be at least a 4.10. On one of the RV forums i was told that because of the wind resistance I might be able to stay in OD and lockup only in ideal conditions anyway.
In the meantime I need to focus on safety first, brakes need work and I'm tracking down a fluid leak too.
I once read that on Expeditions some shops raise the body off the frame to do major engine work. Maybe i just need to raise the body off this rig and put a whole new rolling chassis under it...

Looks like you got lucky and i didn't.
i counted 17 bolts on my tranny pan, which makes it a C6.
The E4OD has 20 pan bolts.
if I had one of my Aerostars back I'd have OD and lockup, but i gave them both to my sons. I shoulda turned one of them into an RV....
Thanks again,
