Speedo gear?

Alright this one might sound a little on the dumb side so bear with me but to make it short and sweet I need to swap my speedo gear out for one that is calibrated for 3.55's in my F-150. I have an M5OD and the stock 235/75/R15 tires and dad says he has some old gears from a c4 but I have no idea if they will work or not, and even if they do is there any sort of color coding for them so I'm not swapping and driving until I get the right thing? Sorry if this is kinda a silly question, I just couldn't find any info for some reason.

I don't know when it started, but at some point Ford went to an electronic speedometer that doesn't use a cable to drive it so there are no speedo drive gears. I don't know if your '90 is new enough to have the electronic speedo or not. If it is, here's a thread that describes how to recalibrate it. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...eedo-gear.html

If it is old enough for a mechanical speedo, sorry, I don't know what gears will work.

edit: As I read the link I posted more carefully it looks like the electronic speedo came in '92. So you probably do have the mechanical one. Sorry I couldn't help

Yep mines cable driven, even has that classic bounce with the speedo that the older ones have. I think they changed it to electronic around 92 I think? Correct me if I'm wrong.

So your speedo is not reading correctly at this time? If so how far is it off? The gear in question is located on the end of the cable at the trans or t-case and apparently the C4 and AOD use the same gears, but to know what one you need you first need to know what one you are starting with, each tooth count is a unique color. Go to the link below and scroll down to the Ford section.. Speedometer Gear, Speedometer Gears, Ford, GM, Dodge 700R4

Yes it it currently reading too fast at 65 miles an hour I am actually doing 59 miles an hour. I just looked through the website and I thing the part number #82S is the one I need but I need to look at the one on the truck to confirm that.
