? on speedometer gears.

How do you know what gear to attach to the speedo cable, when you put larger tires on it. I picked up a BII and the owner said the speedo was about 5mph to fast, but that was with 205/75R5, I have since put on 30"x9.5"x15, just wonder what the gear should be. The speedo jumps around at the lower speeds, so I may also have to replace the cable.
Any info is appreciated.
Thanks,
Shiny

You can figure the right number of teeth with this formula...

new = (current X speedometer reading)/actual speed

larger tires should make the speedo read slower than actual

Could you elaborate on the formula a little. The only thing I don't understand is the "current" in the equation.
