Ok, so more about this hitch. The 14082. What kind of rear bumper are you guys running?
I have what I think is a factory drop step bumper. It hangs below the tailgate about 2". And the bottom plate where the ball mounts is about 8-1/2" below the tailgate.
I have been trying to figure out how to effectively modify a reciever that I have to make it fit, but i wouldn't be able to do it easily and make it as strong as I would like it to be. It would either be hard to do, or not come out good.
So for $120, I might just buy the curt hitch if it fits well. Mike, you say there is only a 1/4" between the hitch and the bumper? that means I can't keep my bumper mounted ball?
I actually found a hitch at the junkyard on a 87 f150 that has all the right measurements except for mounting width. The mounts are turned out for the wider frame. I just need to make some that turn in. So I'm just gonna use some 1/4"x 2"x 2" angle and make my own and weld on. Hitch cost me about $26.
