Anyone out there with a highboy have part# for a hitch that will fit the narrow frame rails? The parts store seems to be retarded when i tell them that not just any F-250 hitch will work. I have one here but the stickers are gone and its been welded to the frame so its pretty much unusuable.
dave , I have to check to see if it is still there but my 78 f350 2wd crew cab has the narrow frame rails and it may still have the hitch on it.. try looking for one for a 78/79 2wd f350 crew cab
yeah - I guess my response could look bad if one didn't know Dave and I rip on each other daily both on and off FTE.
Heck - I've got a big enough parts box waiting to ship out to Dave that I might as well throw a hitch in there too. I still think making his own would cost less than shipping though
I already told you later this week on the motor mounts. Take this time you have while you are waiting to get off your **** and actually MAKE something for your truck!
I have been there sand sucker. I fixed the frame where some rainman welded plate to make a "hitch". More and more i think that you should have to get a permit to buy/operate a welder
I know you you feel - the supercab is the 1st 70's ford I've owned that the idiots didn't weld the bumper and/or hitch onto. The one on the crew was a nightmare I've only partially tackled...
If you look at the far frame rail you can see whats left of the piece thats welded to the frame. Its bent down. They had that welded then a plate welded infront of the shackle hanger and the hitch welded to the bumper.
That's why I keep telling you to mount plats to the vertical INSIDE of the frame and weld a 4x4" or so tube across between the frame rails. Cut out the hole for the receiver tube and weld one in. You can also weld tabs or whatever on to attach the straps and skid plate mounts for your gas tank.
Ok hippy i just took some measurements. If i were to mount it like that it would put the center of the tube at 38" off the ground. Keep in mind that i dont have the weight of the bed and fuel tank in there yet. So with my 6" drop deal it puts my toungue at 32". To damn high. I have a hitch that will fit this truck. The downside is that its been welded to the trick i got it from so im worried about the intergrity of it now.
