1991 Ford F150 XLT 302 E4OD? the problem is my key switch is loose (assumed broke) the actuator arm is broke but somehow it would still start and run... but the transmission is stuck in park and can't figure out why?? new key switch on the way and turnsignal switch... my question is will the arm cause the transmission to stick in park?
Now see when the arm broke the switch felt really loose... but the truck would most the time start with the broke arm by the key??? we installed another ignition push start button for when it doesn't... so the key is just for unlocking the wheel and the lights etc stuff like that.. then my transmission got stuck in park and the question is will the arm cause the transmission to get stuck in park? the tranny arm i guess i don't know what to call it does not drag on the arm.. EDIT okay i finished watching the video and i got it... so that's my problem?
That square shaft that breaks off is what locks your shifter. If it breaks while the ignition is on, the shifter remains unlocked. Sometimes, the broken shaft moves, usually if you move the tilt mechanism, the bar slides and the shifter locks. Now you have no way to unlock the shifter except to tear down the column and remove the broken lock shaft.
By the way, the shortcut he uses to install the new part without disassembling the rest of the column works, but it is better to pull the tilt pivot pins and do it properly.
