F250 automatic shifter stuck in park

The shifter in my 2005 F250 6.0 diesel truck suddenly went limp and will not shift out of park. When I pull back the arm, there is no resistance and I cannot pull the arm down. I am searching for schematics of the shifter online. If anyone out there can help me with finding the diagrams or tell me about what you know, I would appreciate it. I need to know what part went out on me and if it's easy enough to replace. Have a great day all!

check your brake solenoid

with the key in the "on" positions (motor on or off)

push the brake pedal. can you hear a click in the dash by the instrument cluster? if no click, the solenoid isn't working and that is what is blocking the shifter from going out of Park

no, I do not hear a click. I've never even noticed it before but it sounds like it makes sense. will that cause the arm to be so loose? I also have to jiggle the arm to get the key out.

the key cylinder is notorious for wearing out over the years. only real fix is to replace it.

if the arm needs adjustment, that might affect the key as well? Hopefully some guys will chime in soon with a drawing for you.

for now, ontop of the brake pedal, there is a switch. Check to see if there are any loose wires. Maybe you kicked one by accident?

btw, are your brake-lights working? The solenoid for the shifter could be out...or the brake switch could be bad.

brake lights work, all wires appear to be on place. the key thing just happened along with the arm going limp. I have to get the arm in the right position to turn the key switch back so I can remove the key.

kdi500 if it comes back limp like i think your describing, it has a spring broke in the mechanism. If it were my truck i would start dissasembling the colum untill i found the problem. this is not a good idea for everyone thow. the brake interlock solenoid can also be tested if you can isolate the wires for it.

im sorry i dont have the excact answer you are looking for but i would start with the brake interlock. Good luck

I had a problem similar with my van. I had a retaining bolt come loose and fall to the floor board. I had to reach it back up there and put it back. The shifter seemed a little loose for a short period before the bolt fell out. Have you noticed a screw/bolt laying around? Get a flashlight and look up behind there and wiggle the shifter.
