Brake Pedal Height

Hi, would be grateful if anyone could let me know whether it's normal for the brake pedal in these trucks to be much higher than the gas pedal? The gas pedal feel about the right height but the brake pedal is 4" to 5" higher, making it a bit awkward to move quickly from gas to brake, plus it means I have to pull my knee back more than feels comfortable. Ideally I'd like it lower if at all possible....is the height adjustable?

To give some more detail, it's a 69 F-100 long bed with a 390 and C6. I know the previous owner did a lot of work on it, including a disc brake conversion, so I'm not sure whether this is just how it is stock or whether it's linked to previous mods that have been done.

Normal. It can't easily be changed. Plus, with manual brakes, you need that much travel.

Okay thanks, not my favorite part of the design but at least I know that's how it should be.

I adjusted mine down when I converted to power discs, by drilling new holes.

Huh, I have power brakes and mine sits that high. Almost couldn't hit the brakes in time the other day when a deer crossed right in front of me. Is that height also normal for power brakes?

Probably, it seems normal to me. I'm not sure why you guys think it needs to be lower???

Guess it's just what you're used to. But, for me, the brake pedal in my F100 is higher in relation to the gas pedal than in any other vehicle I can remember driving. I can live with it and probably will but on occasion my foot has caught the side of the brake pedal when trying to move quickly across from the gas......a bit unnerving!

If your truck has been converted to power.Check the pedal for a part no. I have a D7XXXXX number on mine and it says on it power brake. This pedal is lower then the original manual brake pedal.

I have stock power drum brakes in my 72, and it's the same way. It only bothers me when I first get in after driving my 2010.

It would be nice if the brake pedal were closer to the firewall, more in-line with the accelerator pedal, but if I changed it, I would worry about running out of travel.

Is there a fix for this? Mine really bugs me. Its a 72 with factory power brakes and power steering, 2wd. I dont want to do a disc conversion now, because a cv swap is inevitable in the next 6 months. I currently drive it enough for it to bug me, though.

Are there aftermarket pedals that fit these trucks?

Over the yrs I had a number of M/cylinders on my truck back when some auto parts stores had life time warrantees.

A few times, I was give a M/c that only has a shorter cylinder piston travel that about 2/3 the travel. When bleeding while on the truck the pedal bottomed out about 2" from the floor. For a number of yrs, I put up with it but it was scary a few times trying to get it stopped fast as I did not like to have my brakes shoes tighten up to high as, I did a lot of off roading some time in a lot of sand and didn't need any eating up my Brake lining & drums.

I seen where rock auto has some M/C listed with bore size & piston travel depth but not many a few yrs ago..

You can drill a new hole its a 3/8 dia. that will put pedal lower . Just measure how far pedal is with the brakes pressed to see if you have the room between floor and pedal.
