Plan on getting a 5 star tuner for my 12 6.2 super duty while the labor day sale is going on. I have 3.73 gears in it right now but will be putting 4.30 gears in this winter. I can change the gear ratio in the pcm with ids just wondering if the tuner I get today setup for 3.73 will be able to change the gear ratio setting in the pcm also?
I don't think you have to do anything when changing gears because the speed pickup is mounted to the ring gear so the axle speed doesn't change. But if you change tire size then the pcm will have to be adjusted to the new diameter.
The IPC provides a tolerance which allows the gauge to display between 3% lower and 7% higher than the actual vehicle speed. This means that with an actual vehicle speed of 96.6 km/h (60 mph), the speedometer may indicate between 93.7-103.3 km/h (58.2-64.1 mph). Factors that could potentially affect the speedometer accuracy are incorrect tire size configuration and axle ratio configuration.
This is strait out of the work shop manual. And in ids there is an option for gear ratio selection. I know tuners for cars have the ability to change gear ratios just wondering if people who already have a 5star tuner know if it has the option to do the same.
On the sct you can change the gear ratio.he can also correct your speedo based on your tire size in the tune. When you order the tuner tell them you plan on doing the gear swap and see if Mike recommends you either get him to send you an updated version of the tunes when you change gears or just change the setting on the tuner.
