i have a 2002 4x4 7.3 replaced turbo gt38r pis i60 injectors glow plugs fuel pump ipr icp uvc harness in april truck ran fine till now.it started with long crank times and now no start unless i use start fluid with glow plug unhooked. my diesel mec. ran test buzz checked out icp pressure was 450psi ,so i put another ipr in still no start. do i check my injectors for leaks or get a hpop.mec. is on vac now is there a way to ckeck hpop before i buy one. thanks
ICP 450 PSI while cranking? It won't start, that's for sure. Try unplugging the ICP connector and starting before you go to the next step.
While it's not a given, the HPOP is usually OK, and "new" injectors are more likely to be the problem with ICP. You can check the torque on your injectors (were they banging before the truck quit?). If the torque is below 50 inch-pounds, you need to pull the loose injector and install new O-rings and copper washer. If it's above 50 but below 120 inch-pounds, re-torque to 130 inch-pounds.
If injector hold-down bolt torque is not the problem, pull the HPOP lines off your heads and do the "Cody test": Inject 100+ PSI air into the open oil fitting on the head, listen for gurgling, and watch for bubbles at the injectors. Put a rag around your air tool, because when you pull it from the fitting - the oil will leap out like a face-hugger on Alien and pretty much ruin your day.
we did unplug icp still no start. my next step was check injectors if they are below 50 psi where do you get new cups and o rings. should i just do the pressure test first. thanks tugly for input
all injectors torque is ok if I do air test do I need to worry about air in oil? I was told to crank engine and see if oil is coming around injectors spring is that something to look at?
If you do introduce air into the oil, it can be worked out later. If you only have 450 PSI ICP, the PCM doesn't even fire the injectors to get oil out the spouts - you'll see nothing there. You need to find the oil leak, and the Cody test is a shortcut.
I think he's saying pull the HPOL from the head and put the rubber nozzle on that side and air up to 100psi plus. Look for leaks at the injectors and listen. If know leaks do the other side the same. Valve covers off!
