My grandson has an 87 Porche 944. He has done a lot to it but right now it won't start. We wanted to see if the injectors were working. Is there a way to test them? Would hooking a multi-meter to the wires tell if it is getting a signal at least? Or is there a way to make them work so we can hear it?
Thanks for any help.
The pulses are probably too short to show up on a meter -- they can be seen easily on a scope.
However, I've read a lot about a 'noid light' . It's a light designed to clip into the injector connector and flash with the signal.
I've never used one, but a quick google seemed to show that they are available as tools -- and not that spendy. Hopefully they have one with a connector that works for you. .
You can supposedly hear them clicking if they are working -- using a mechanic's stethoscope.
One wire should be power or ground, so that's worth checking out. Also, you could ohm out the injectors to see if they have the correct resistance.
You can hear them rather easy, as ford2go said with a mechanics stethoscope but more often I just use a long screwdriver. Put the tip on the injector and the handle in your ear, you'd be surprised how much you can hear doing that.
