bank fire question

Ok here is my problem I have a 1991 F150 with a 302, Bank number two won't shut off and it keeps flooding those four cyclinders out. I changed the TFI thinking it was that and nope. I unplug the injectors and swaps a few from bank one and the problem went to the other side.

My question is what would cause this and any ideas on how to fix it. all there is the power wire and signal wire so I am thinking it is the signal wire??

Please help!

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 09-Jul-02 AT 12:13 PM (EST)]If, after moving injectors around, the flooding followed the injectors. I would say you have an injector that is shorting out. Take a reading on the 4 injectors on the bank that is flooding. I'm not sure what the actual resistance should be, but make sure none of them are 0.
If the flooding is not following the injectors, check your signal wire and make sure it is not shorting out. (0 ohms to ground would be bad) Do this test while the truck is OFF.

Let us know what you find out.

Ok well I checked all the injectors and they read about 14 to 16 ohms. According to what I found on the net this is all good. I check both the working and the nonworking wires to the injectors and the both are getting voltage, no shorting out.

What controls the pulse width? Maybe that is causing my trouble?

If the problem followed the injectors then they are bad.I have seen them fouled to the point they will not shut off and constantly leak gas into the cylinders. There are places that will clean them and flow test also.Expect to pay about $15 bucks a piece.Or you can buy new ones.Search the net you can find them cheaper than parts stores.

The problem doesn't follow the injectors. I swap an injector from Bank one to Bank two and the problem stayed on bank two. If I take the wires from the number 5 injector and plug it into the number 6 injector that cylinder works fine.

After checking all the injectors I beleive it is not them but something to do with a sensor or the EEC.

Please help I'll try anything!!!

Something is grounding the signal wire when it is not supposed to be grounded. There is either a short in the signal wire to ground, or the computer has malfunctioned.
What error codes (if any) does the computer spit out?

bank fire question

Well I have been checking more and more things. Here is what I get, bank one (the side that works) the red wire reads 14.5 volts while running and the tan wire reads around 13.9 volts. On bank two the red wire again reds 14.5 volts (same wire as bank one) and the white wire has zero volts.

So I am thinking there is my problem. EEC maybe? or ?? I am going to run the test and see what happens.

keep up the good information and help

thanks

That tells me that the signal wire is shorted to ground. Either the wire has a bare spot, or the computer has mal-functioned.
Try this, with the truck off, get a resistance reading between the signal wire and ground. Then disconect the big plug from the computer and take another reading.
If you can get those readings, post them here and we can trouble shoot some more.

Roger,

I took the ECU out of the truck so I could get the part number, anyways, when I reinstalled it plugged in the main harness and started the truck up it was working again. It ran rough but I fixed that by repacing a couple fouled plugs.

I am thinking that the ECU was at fault and I should probably get a new or used one for a spare incase this happens again. Do these things malfunction alot? I noticed on the ECU there was a sticker saying warenty item do not remove? maybe it was already relaced since I bought the truck used I do not know the history.

What do you think? Thanks for you help with problem!!!!!

Glad to hear you got it running again.
I don't think I have ever actually seen an ECU go bad. I know it is posible, it's just that I've never seen it.
