What about running a borescope down in for a look?
Now... having said that, I ran one down in my #3 hole when the engine was acting up, couldn't see anything wrong... when I got it apart, #3 had a badly burned piston, and the wall was so bad it had to be sleeved. But I'm sure there are better scopes out there, and more qualified people than me running them...
I was actually just looking at Ashville. Blackwater Engines is also another rebuilder close to me. Anyone have any experience with either of these. Or have any other suggestions on where to go

I found mixed reviews, not really sure what to think. I am really surprised at the little amount of information I am able to find about peoples experiences with these engine rebuild companies. Does the base engine in these 6.0's not fail all that often?
I'll say it: Stay far,far away from Blackwater Engines: I can recommend one that I have personal experience in knowing and they do fantastic work is Super Duty Service. Give Antony a buzz and he can put you at ease. He is also a supporting vendor here. And answer your question, they fail, but most of the time it's because of poor maintenance practices.
Thx Bill,, we are in the process of repairing a cracked injector tip right now. Yes,, it's a total rebuild. Generally a misfire code comes up,,, I think of an injector LAST. Misfire=compression test. Not sure if misfire came up,, or just cont-bal. give me a call and I can fill you in on personal experiences with the companies that I have touched their product. I'm actually not liking the ford "go, no-go" opinion on some stuff. Plus the black paint covering EVERYTHING is kinda deceptive. But I'm a picky sob,, just ask around. Lol.
