Should it be rebuilt?

Should it be rebuilt?

Symptoms, 94 7.3 idi turbo, 210,000 miles :
Pinging noise(not unlike bad gas).
#2 Cylinder ,no or low compression
#2 cylinder not firing
Smoke coming from oil fill area when cap removed
Smoking bad(bluish gray) on acceleration but also smoking some all the time.
Was told - Either a broken ring on #2 or a cracked piston.#2 injector was working, Pulled Valve covers off and Rods, Valves and rocker arms were ok.
Since he has to remove engine to fix #2, we may as will tear the engine down and redo it all. Probably can salvage most parts, Dip engine, Replace bearings,polish crank and do other things that I don't remember. Also while down, might as well change out the flywheel/cluch system(Cluch seems ok but this seems to be a future problem)
Cost About 3,000 labor plus parts.
The price sounds good but what if the #2 injector is just replaced first to make sure it's ok?
I might have forgotten something so please ask if there are other symptoms.
I could use some input on any and all of this!!!

Sounds like a possibility. What are you going to do to the cylinders? If you need to bore it, you're going to have to do some sleeving.

Right now I don't think so. I hope that it doesn't need rebored. He just said that the injector waas working but I know that he doesn't have the super testing equipment for testing it. I take it that you feel that I would be wasting my time puting in a new injector in.

If the compression is low, that is your problem. Maybe a bad exh. valve or head gasket?
